Background

Unit Corp. operates exploration & production fields, pipelines, and land drilling units. Operations are organized into three business units: Oil & Natural Gas (Unit Petroleum), Contract Drilling (Unit Drilling), and Mid-Stream (Superior Pipeline). Common shares are listed on the NYSE (UNT) exchange.

Unit entered the exploration and production business in 1979 following an initial public offering, and Unit Petroleum was formed in 1988. Questa Oil & Gas was acquired in 2000 followed by PetroCorp in 2004. The company acquired Brighton Energy in 2006. Chairman Phillip Smith replaced David Merrill as president and CEO in October 2020.
