Background

Tokyo Gas Co. Ltd. operates liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers, LNG terminals, pipelines, power plants, and gas distribution lines. Operations are organized into five business units: Gas, Electric Power, Overseas, Energy, and Real Estate. Common shares are listed on the Tokyo (9531) and Nagoya exchanges.

Tokyo Gas was founded in 1885 by Shibusawa Eiichi and Asano Sōichirō. The company acquired Chiyoda Gas in 1912 and Kawasaki Gas in 1913. Yokohoma City Gas was acquried in 1944. Tokyo Gas combined with Chiba Gas, Tsukuba Gakuen Gas, and Miho Gas in 2016.
