Background

QEP Resources Inc. operates exploration and production fields. Operations are divided between the Williston Basin and Permian Basin divisions. Common shares are listed on the NYSE (QEP) exchange. QEP was previously an abbreviation for Questar Exploration & Production.

Ohio Oil discovered natural gas in Wyoming in 1922, and Mountain Fuel Supply was spun out of Ohio Oil in 1928. Mountain Fuel Supply was renamed Questar in 1984, and Questar acquired Universal Resources in 1987. Shenandoah Energy was acquired in 2002. In 2010, QEP Resources was spun out of Questar through a public listing.
