Virginia Coal & Iron was founded in 1882 and renamed Penn Virginia in 1967. Penn Virginia listed on the NYSE exchange in 1997. The company emerged from bankruptcy in 2016, moving its headquarters from Radnor, Pennsylvania to Houston. North Texas assets were acquired from Hunt Oil and Devon Energy in 2017 and 2018. Darrin Henke replaced John Brooks as CEO in August 2020. Assets were acquired from Rocky Creek Resources in the first quarter of 2021, and Penn Virginia agreed to acquire Lonestar Resources in July 2021 with closing in the second half of the year.
