Background

Noble Energy Inc. operates exploration and production fields, pipelines, and storage terminals. Operations are organized into five business units: United States, Eastern Mediterranean, West Africa, Other International, and Midstream. Noble Midstream GP LLC is the general partner for Noble Midstream Partners LP and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Noble Energy which supports Noble Midstream under a services agreement. Noble shares (NBL) and Noble Midstream units (NBLX) are listed on the Nasdaq exchange. The company takes its name from founder Lloyd Noble.

Samedan Oil was founded in 1932 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Several companies were combined to form Noble Affiliates 1969, primarily Samedan and Noble Drilling. The company was listed on the NYSE exchange in 1980, and Noble Drilling was spun off in 1985. Energy Development Corporation was acquired in 1986. The company changed its name to Noble Energy in 2002. Patina Oil & Gas was acquired in 2005. Rosetta Resources was acquired in 2015, and Noble Midstream Partners was formed in 2016. The company acquired Clayton Williams Energy in 2017.
