Nabors Industries Ltd. provides land drilling, offshore drilling, directional drilling, and tubular running services as well as manufacturing drilling equipment and providing drilling software. Operations are organized into five business units: U.S. Drilling, Canada Drilling, International Drilling, Drilling Solutions, and Rig Technologies (Canrig). The company is registered in Bermuda with common shares listed on the NYSE (NBR) exchange. The company takes its name from founder Clair Nabors.
Nabors was founded in 1952 in Canada. Westburne Drilling was acquired in 1988, and Loffland Brothers Drilling was acquired in 1990. Grace Drilling, including 167 rigs, was acquired in 1993. The Canrig drilling & handling equipment subsidiary was founded in 1995. Nabors acquired Exeter Drilling and JW Gibson Well Service in 1996 and instrumentation company Epoch Well Services in 1997. Directional driller Ryan Energy was acquired in 2002, and Canrig acquired Pragma Drilling Equipment in 2006. In 2017, rig equipment manufacturer Tesco was acquired as well as Norway-based handling equipment maker Robotic Drilling Systems (RDS).
