Background

GeoPark Ltd. operates oil and gas fields with assets in Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, and Brazil. Operations are organized into five geographic business units: Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Peru, and Argentina. The company is registered in Bermuda with ordinary shares listed on the NYSE (GPRK) exchange.

GeoPark was founded in 2002 by Gerald E. O'Shaughnessy and James Park. IFC acquired an interest in the company in 2006 which was followed by listings on the London and NYSE exchanges. GeoPark acquired Winchester Oil & Gas and La Luna Oil in 2012. The company acquired Pluspetrol in 2018 followed by Amerisur Resources in January 2020. Followed a forced resignation as chair in June 2021, Gerald O'Shaughnessy wrote an open letter to the board requesting new directors and more oversight of CEO James Park.
