Background

Expro Group Holdings International Ltd. manufactures production equipment and provides well testing, intervention, and abandonment field services with operations in over 50 countries. Operations are organized into five geographic business units: Europe & Commonwealth of Independent States (ECIS), Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA); Asia, Middle East & North Africa (MENA), and North & Latin America (NLA).

Frank's Casing Crew & Rental Tools was founded in 1938, and Exploration & Production Services North Sea  (Expro) was founded in 1973 by J. Trewhella, J. Ross, and H. Green with its first base in Aberdeen, Scotland. Data acquisition and sampling company Exal was acquired in 1987. The company was listed on the London stock exchange in 1995 and acquired Tronic, Oilserv Australia, and Saltus Sub Surface in 1998. The company acquired Tripoint, Kinley, Surface Production Systems, and the well testing division of Production Testers International (PTI) in 2001. The next year, Multiline Combination Services and Production Wireline Services were acquired. Flight Refuelling's Cableless Telemetry Systems (CATS) was acquired in 2003, and Power Well Services was acquired in 2006. PTI was acquired in 2008.

The company was taken private in 2008 with the acquisition by a consortium called which included Candover, Goldman Sachs, and AlpInvest. A new management team was put in place in 2010. KKR and Park Square Capital gained stakes in the company through a 2016 debt restructuring. The company filed for financial restructuring in 2017 which was completed in 2018. in March 2021, Expro agreed to combine with Frank's International in an all-stock deal with Frank's CEO Mike Kearney becoming chairman.
