Background

Enerplus Corp. operates oil and gas fields with assets in the United States and Canada. Common shares are listed on the TSX (ERF) and NYSE (ERF) exchanges.

Enerplus Resources was established in 1986 with a public offering. The company acquired Westrock Energy in 1994 and Mark Resources in 1996. Ice Energy was acquired in 2004. In 2005, the company acquired Lyco Energy and Sleeping Giant. Focus Energy was acquired in 2008. The company converted from a trust to a corporation in 2011. Williston Basin-focused Bruin E&P was acquired in March 2021. In April 2021, Enerplus acquired Hess' Little Knife and Murphy Creek assets in North Dakota for $312 million. Enerplus sold its Sleeping Giant asset in Montana and Russian Creek asset in North Dakota in August 2021 for $115 million with closing expected in October.
