Background

DTE Energy Co. operates gathering pipelines, processing plants, power plants, pipelines, and natural gas distribution lines. Operations are organized into three business units: Electric, Gas, and Non-Utility Operations. Non-Utility Operations includes DTE Midstream. Common shares are listed on the NYSE (DTE) exchange. DTE is the stock ticker for Detroit Edison, the former name of the company.

Detroit Gas began operating in 1849, and Detroit Edison was incorporated in 1903. Detroit Gas, Washtenaw Gas, and Ann Arbor Gas were merged in 1938 to form Michigan Consolidated Gas (MichCon). MichCon was renamed MCN Energy following a spin off from Primark in 1988. Detroit Edison was renamed DTE Energy in 1996 and acquired MCN Energy in 2001.
