Background

Dominion Energy Inc. operates power plants as well as electrical and natural gas distribution lines with assets in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Subsidiaries include Questar Pipelines. The company is organized into three business units: Power Delivery, Power Generation, and Gas Infrastructure. Ordinary shares are listed on the NYSE (D) exchange.

Virginia Railway & Power was founded in 1909 by Frank Jay Gould and acquired Virginia Passenger & Power soon afterward. The company changed its name to Virginia Power & Electric (Vepco) in 1925 and merged with Virginia Public Services in 1940. Vepco reorganized in 1983 as Dominion Resources. Dominion acquired Consolidated Natural Gas in 2000 and Louis Dreyfus Natural Gas in 2001. In 2016, the company acquired Questar. Scana was acquired in 2018.
