Background

CenterPoint Energy Inc. operates gas distribution, power generation, and electricity distribution facilities. Operations are organized into three business units: Electric Transmission & Distribution, Natural Gas Distribution, Indiana & Ohio Utilities, and Infrastructure & Energy Services. Ordinary shares are listed on the NYSE (CNP) exchange. 

Houston Gas Light was founded in 1866 followed by Minneapolis Gas Light in 1870 and Houston Electric Light & Power in 1882. These three companies merged in 1905 to form NorAm Energy. NorAm combined with Houston Industries in 1996, and the company was renamed Reliant Energy in 1999. Reliant Resources was spun off in 2002 and renamed CenterPoint. The company acquired Vectren Energy in 2019.
